Music Genres

*90s Music*
-Weezer: I remember loving Weezer, and I also remember the song Beverley Hills coming on the radio every 10 minutes.  Weezer was a rock band formed in 1992 from Los Angeles and signed to Geffen Records in 1993.

*Punk Music*
-Fall Out Boy: This is an American punk rock band that was from Illinois and was formed back in 2001.  Whenever someone says punk music, I always think of Fall Out Boy and their punk rock head bang music that started out in a garage.

*Electronic/ DJ Music*
-Marshmello:  Electronic music is one that is not much vocals but mostly with a music board.  This music has actually been around since 1943 in Paris when Musique concrète put together audio recordings of natural and industrial sounds.  My favorite electronic DJ is Marshmello because a lot of his songs or videos tell a story instead of it just being a jumble of sounds that don't make sense.

*Girl Power Music*
-Beyonce: the person that comes to mind is Beyonce for me.  She has put out so much music that supports women's beauty and empowers women such as "Pretty Hurts" and "Who Run the World, Girls", etc.  This music supports women and lifts them up and appreciates their beauty, hard work, and feminity.

*Disco Music*
-Bee Gees: Everyone knows that classic song "Stayin Alive" by the Bee Gees.  This was a group that had disco music which formed in 1958 but got really popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s.  There are disco themed parties now with "disco" balls, colorful lights, a dance floor, bright color clothes, and afros

21st Century Technology & New Technology

So many technological advancements have happened in the last 10 years from just when I was a kid.  Granted everyone thought we would have flying cars and holograms by now but we are halfway there.  I have seen crazy technology nowadays.  I was scrolling through Instagram one day and saw a fitness trainer to release a program that allows anyone around the world to train "with" her.  How? through a hologram!  I saw videos of people taking her workout class session by learning from and working out with her hologram.  I thought this was the craziest thing I had ever seen in my life.  I knew that it would happen someday but it was crazy to actually see it happen.  So many other new versions of technology like the Alexa and Google Home which do what you want them to do based on command, and Virtual reality to make it seem like the person is physically in the location they are looking at through virtual reality goggles/apps.

Robots

So I feel like the topic surrounding robots is somewhat controversial.  I personally don't know how comfortable I feel with robots that were created to basically be superior to the human and have more power and intelligence.  The thought of sending off hundreds of those creations into the world scares me because of the power they will have.  We already have started developing them and videos have been released of ones that have been created.  One that comes to my mind is specifically "Sophia the robot" and I have seen videos of her speaking and moving and it is as if she is a human and it was chilling to see something that is all electronic and mechanics function in that way.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I personally am creeped out and scared at the thought of robots one-day outsmarting humans.

Xerox Project

So using my phone for this surprised me on how well it worked.  I used a scanning app and I was so scared it wasn't going to be able to photograph my hands well enough for the project but I wasn't disappointed with the outcome.  I was inspired to do this because I was at work and talking with my coworker about our family tree and it made me come up with the idea of doing a "floating hand tree" to somewhat symbolize the roots of a family tree all coming together in unity in the family tree.

Flip Book Movie

This is my Flip Book video.  I wanted to use it as a friendly reminder to spread kindness and the flower is supposed to symbolize helping others grow into something beautiful!

Artist Vs. Inventor

Is there a difference between an artist and an inventor?

There seems to be many similarities between an artist and an inventor.  They both are creators of their own original thoughts and ideas and make them come to life.  An artist by definition is a person who produces works in any of the arts that are primarily subject to aesthetic criteria.  An Inventor is a person who invents, especially one who devises some new process, appliance, machine, or article; one who makes inventions.  They can, however, be somewhat interchangeable definitions.  The big difference though may be that an artist's creations are representing their own desire while an inventor has to create something that appeals to the public and is functional.

Performance Art Video

Creative Video

I went to Portugal back during winter break for a medical fellowship and decided to put together a bunch of video clips from while I was there.  I stayed in Castelo Branco and it was a beautiful small city and went touring in Lisbon which was also gorgeous.

Song: Cruise by Kygo

Performance Art Video (Title/Description)

Title: The Power of Music and Sound

Description:
I went to the gym with my boyfriend and recorded him working out.  I have seen countless motivational and inspiring workout videos and I realized it is the music and sound effects that add that extra emotion and impact on the viewer.  I wanted to show the power of sound effects and music and how much they impact a person's emotion as they are watching this video.  To put it into perspective, try to imagine this video or any other film of any type without sound effects or music and think about how different it would make you feel.

What I want my audience to get out of my piece:
I hope that my video inspires others as it inspires me.  I hope that they will watch it and it will motivate them to continue to work towards their goals and always work for something instead of settling.  Most importantly I want my audience to realize the importance and effect that music and sound have on emphasizing a video.  Think about it, how weird and boring would it be if movies or TV shows didn't have any sort of music in it? It wouldn't have that same emotional effect.

Props/What I used and the reason for using/including them:

I actually used my camera and tripod for shooting the video because I wanted the quality of the video to be the best I could possibly make it.  My camera is a Canon G7x.  I also used IMovie to edit the clips when I downloaded them to my laptop because it is a good editing tool that is easy to maneuver.  The specific edits I used, such as slowing down or speeding up the video, was to emphasize the emotion or feeling I had in the moments I was recording it and also to go well with the music I put over it.  The song I used “Cruise” by Kygo, was used because I feel like whenever that song plays it makes me want to get in my car and drive or fly to a random place and explore it.

Grid with Skittles

We did a small project to try and imitate grid art that normally uses pixels, but we used skittles instead.  I chose an emoji with sunglasses on

Broadway: Bea Arthur

We began watching this video in class, I honestly thought it was interesting that Bea Arthur was telling a story through singing.  It was truly beautiful to hear her sing, she spoke about how if people were to tell her in her past that she would be where she was at today, she wouldn’t have believed them.  This is amazing because it was such a simple performance yet so beautiful and meaningful.  Nowadays, it seems like Broadway shown are all about production and special effects with many actors/ actresses.  An example of two Broadway shows I have seen that did this was Wicked and Lion King.  They all had costumes, it was fast pace, and they had props and special effects to try and make the story more exciting.  There may be some shows that are similar and simple like Bea Arthur, however it seems that most of them are more focused on big entertainment that is fast pace and intricate rather than simple.

Madame Butterfly Claymation

This video was very interesting and different to watch, I have only ever seen a claymation movie once in my life and I was very young so I don’t remember it too well.  What I gathered from this video was that the puppet butterfly was lonely and then a sailor came to the island she was on and they were romantic with each other.  After he left, she seemed to be sad and was waiting for him to return.  She had also gotten pregnant and gave birth to what looked like an animal that then grew into a young child.  This was very odd to me because it was not a typical childbirth.  The scene seemed to have gotten darker and darker throughout the video and caused a mood change.  The sailor had eventually come back and taken the child from the woman which was when the scene really changed and got dark and sad, you could almost feel the pain of the woman for her losing her two loves.  A beautiful moment in the video was when the women turns into a butterfly flying away which seems to represent her finally having the ability to be free of pain and leave the island.
